Mulled wine on the grill

The FESTÁVOLO barbecue table offers convivial moments on the terrace even in winter - with a mulled wine on the grill.

Wintertime is mulled wine time

In winter, when the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are getting colder, a warming mug of mulled wine outdoors creates a cosy atmosphere.

With your FESTÁVOLO barbecue table, you can prepare this culinary, contemplative pleasure for your friends and loved ones in no time at all.

All you need is a pot (suitable for a gas stove) and the following ingredients:

  • 1 litre of red wine (Dornfelder, Merlot or Pinot Noir are well suited, for example)
  • 1 organic orange, sliced

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 4 cloves

  • 3-4 tbsp cane sugar, honey or agave syrup

Optional:

  • 2 star anise

  • 1 vanilla bean

  • And other spices such as allspice, nutmeg, etc. as needed

Preparation:

Put the red wine in a saucepan. Then place it on the grill grate of your FESTÁVOLO grill table, ignite the gas burner and heat the red wine. Please make sure that it does not get too hot, otherwise the alcohol will evaporate and the wine can become bitter. The ideal temperature is around 70°C.

Then add the sliced organic orange and spices, sweetening to taste. Now let it steep for about 45 minutes so that the spices can develop their aroma optimally, and serve hot.

Of course, the whole thing also works as a non-alcoholic version – then simply use grape or apple juice instead of red wine.

A small note:
Since butane gas liquefies at temperatures below 0 °C and thus loses its effect as fuel, it is best to use propane gas in winter, which can also be used without any problems at sub-zero temperatures.
